Biography




Kathy E. Kram is Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Boston University School of Management, and Everett V. Lord Distinguished Faculty Scholar.  Her primary interests are in the areas of adult development, mentoring, diversity issues in executive development, leadership, and organizational change processes. In addition to her book, Mentoring at Work, she has published in a wide range of journals including Organizational Dynamics, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Harvard Business Review,  Business Horizons, Qualitative Sociology, Mentoring International, Journal of Management Development, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Management Inquiry, Organizational Behavior and Human Performance, Career Development International, and  Psychology of Women Quarterly.  Her new book, an edited volume with Prof. Belle Rose Ragins is entitled Handbook of Mentoring at Work: Theory, Research and Practice,  published by Sage Publishing in October,  2007.

She is currently exploring the nature of peer coaching and mentoring circles as part of her ongoing program of research on relational learning, adult development and leadership development. All of her research is aimed at enhancing leadership effectiveness and quality of work life.   She is a founding member of the Center for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations (CREIO). During 2000-2001, she served as a visiting scholar at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) during which time she worked on a study of executive coaching and its role in developing emotional competence in leaders.  She is now serving a second 3 year term as a member of the Center’s Board of Governors. 

  Professor Kram teaches undergraduate, MBA and Executive MBA courses in Global Management, Leadership, Team Dynamics, and Organizational Change.  She is currently serving as Faculty Director of the MBA Portfolio Program.   She consults with private and public sector organizations on a variety human resource management concerns.  She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from M.I.T. Sloan School of Management, and a Ph.D. from Yale University.
