Biography

Research domain

Ilios Kotsou’s research interests focuses on the acquisition of emotional skills.
He investigates the conditions and effects of this possible acquisition (eg on mental and physical health and quality of interpersonal relationships) and explores the mechanisms underlying this improvement. Among his research interests:

Emotional competence
- Development of emotional competencies (trainings with applications in the domains of health and organizations)
-Understanding of processes and mecanisms involved in emotional competence change (importance of flexibility, needs, values, emotional acceptance, mindfulness…)

Positive psychology
-Understanding the effects of positive emotions
-Positive value of « negative » emotions
-Developpement of values and needs based interventions

He lectures frequently to business audiences and professional groups and is involved in the organization of conferences for the dissemination of science and the funding of humanitarian projects (Emergences asbl, 2009 on Mindfulness, 2010 on Positive Psychology).
